Research Involvement
Viocare takes an active role in defining the future of wellness. We have led over $8 million in research through 14 National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants/awards. Our most recent projects include:
- Supporting the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) nutrigenomic study. The study goal is to understand the link between nutrition, an individual's genetic makeup, and chronic disease. Viocare supports the FDA design and development of a database and web-based tool for the storage and analysis of lifestyle, biometric, genetic, and nutrient data.
- Innovating diet assessment through a grant by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) for the development of a Mobile Food Intake Visualization and Voice Recognizer (FIVR). The result will enable a consumer to use a mobile phone to help measure a meal's nutritional content. This innovative system will use pictures of food and speech recognition to identify the food and produce an estimate of the calories and nutrients an individual consumes.
